third party logistics

Although 2013 was a rocky year for retail businesses across the UK, third party logistics companies are looking forward to a year where the whole country slowly dusts off the recession and starts to rebuild its economy.

Retail businesses are beginning to see increases in sales again and need third party logistics that can carry them through the rest of the year. There’s still a lot of insecurity however, and these business owners need exceptional fulfilment services to gently encourage public opinion.

So whats new in 2014 with third party logistics

3PLs that emerged unscathed are embracing new techniques, new technologies and ideas in order to reunite businesses both large and small with consumers, and we’ve gathered together some of the key trends that 3PLs will be focusing on in 2014.

Transparency and effective communication are two of the trends, and 3PLs will be working hard throughout 2014 to create solid business relationships with their clients and contacts within the industry through sharing information quickly and efficiently.

There will also be a focus on integrating data systems as the logistics industry is relying more and more on technological innovation

The use of Cloud based storage systems for example really took off in 2013 and with their almost unlimited storage capabilities and ease of application, looks set to increase within the majority of 3PLs and companies seeking reduced IT costs and more efficient data sharing and storage technology.

Similarly, 3PLs will be looking to help business owners who are have yet to jump on the e-bandwagon, relying on their high street stores alone to hit sales targets. Customers expect companies—even smaller, independent stores—to at the very least have a website, and if they are able to purchase through the web, then even better.

3PLs will also be working towards creating a more sustainable supply chain, as focus around the world is shifting to environmentally friendly production, sourcing of materials and transportation and distribution.

Building a partnership with a 3PL, such as DMG Freight Services, at the beginning of the year can help set your own business goals in motion, and with clear industry goals set for 2014 it’s possible to go above and beyond your own expectations.
